The Konvertibilna Marka has been pegged to the Euro at a fixed rate since 2002 — itself inherited from the original peg to the Deutschmark established at the currency's introduction in 1998. That peg is enshrined in the Dayton Agreement framework and cannot be altered by the Central Bank alone, which makes this one of the more constitutionally constrained currency arrangements in Europe.
Oberthur's Chantepie facility has handled the KM series throughout, a practical choice given Bosnia's limited domestic printing infrastructure in the post-war period.
