Additional information

Issued to mark the centenary of the Lviv Opera House, which opened in 1900 after a construction campaign that displaced a significant portion of the city's old fortification walls. The architect, Zygmunt Gorgolewski, died the following year, never seeing the building reach its full reputation as one of the finest neo-baroque theatrical structures in Central Europe.

Ukraine's commemorative silver program from this period was struck in relatively modest mintages, and the Lviv Opera issue was among the first to draw serious collector attention outside the former Soviet states.
