Pattigham is a small parish in Upper Austria, and like hundreds of similarly sized communities, it issued emergency small-change notes — Notgeld — during the severe coin shortage that followed the collapse of the Habsburg economy. The 10 Heller denomination placed this firmly at the bottom of the Notgeld range, covering the most basic transactional gaps left when metal coinage vanished from circulation almost entirely after 1918.
The Jaksch/Pick reference JPR0723-10 situates this within the vast Austrian municipal Notgeld corpus. Pattigham's issues are not among the elaborately printed collector-targeted series that flooded the market by 1921 — this is functional small-town scrip, printed to be used and discarded.
