Marchtrenk is a small market town in Upper Austria, and this 10 Heller note is one of the thousands of Austrian municipal emergency issues — Notgeld — produced between 1919 and 1921 when small-denomination coinage had effectively disappeared from circulation. Municipalities were left to fill the gap themselves, with results varying wildly in print quality and design ambition.

Dr. Josef Holzhey served as Bürgermeister of Marchtrenk during this period. The JPR0581c designation places this within a documented series for the town, suggesting multiple denominations were issued concurrently.
