Hausmening is a small village in Lower Austria, and this 10 Heller Notgeld is about as local as emergency currency gets — issued by the municipal authority rather than a bank or savings institution, almost certainly in response to the acute small-coin shortage that gripped Austria in the years immediately following the First World War and the dissolution of the Habsburg monetary system.
Printed by F. Soltenberg in Vienna, a minor commercial printer who handled a number of Lower Austrian Notgeld commissions during this period. The JPR reference places it firmly within the Jaksch-Pick cataloguing of Austrian community issues.
