Reverse description The reverse is printed entirely in letterpress on unadorned buff paper, bordered at top and bottom by ornamental typographic friezes of stylised fleurs-de-lis and scroll motifs. The upper portion carries a two-line rhyming verse in German, followed by a justified block of authorisation text stating the legal basis, the council resolution date of 8 May 1920, the total issue ceiling of 50,000 Kronen, and the counterfeiting warning 'Nachahmung wird bestraft'. The text concludes with the mayoral signature line 'Der Bürgermeister: Josef Posch.'

Comments

Gosau is a small alpine commune in Upper Austria, and like hundreds of similar municipalities it issued Notgeld during the post-WWI monetary collapse when small coin simply disappeared from circulation. These local emergency issues were authorized under Austrian provisions allowing towns and villages to print their own fractional currency to keep trade moving at the market and shop level.

The Jaksc reference places this in the standard Upper Austrian municipal series. Josef Posch's signature as issuing official is the only individuating administrative detail that survives.
