Comments

Desselbrunn is a small rural municipality in Upper Austria, and its 1920 Heller note belongs to the vast wave of Notgeld issued across the former Habsburg territories after the collapse of the empire left local economies starved of small change. The sheer print run — over twelve million for a village-scale issuer — reflects not local demand alone but the wholesale inflationary erosion of the Austrian crown, which made even 10-Heller denominations functionally trivial within months of issue.

L. Haase designed the note; the signatory Hüthmair served as Bürgermeister at the time of issue.
