Comments

A Notgeld issue from the Karolinenhof, the station restaurant at Bischofshofen in the Salzburg region, signed personally by proprietor Alois Seiringer. Austrian railway station restaurants were among the more unusual issuers of the 1920 emergency currency wave — their captive customer base of transiting passengers made small-denomination scrip practical in a way it wouldn't have been for most businesses.

Seiringer's signature as sole guarantor meant redemption depended entirely on the continued solvency of one private individual running one hospitality establishment.
