At centre, the municipal coat of arms of Bischofshofen — a red heraldic shield — serves as an underprint beneath the large bold numeral '10'. The denomination 'Zehn Heller' appears in heavy letterpress type to both the left and right of the central vignette. The issuing authority text and validity clause run across the upper portion, with the place and date 'Bischofshofen, 1. Juni 1920' and the Bürgermeister's manuscript signature at the foot.

Austrian Notgeld of this type emerged from a genuine small-change shortage that persisted well after the First World War ended. The Austrian State Mint could not keep pace with demand for low-denomination coins, and thousands of municipalities were legally permitted — briefly — to issue their own emergency paper fractions. Bischofshofen, a small railway junction town in Salzburg province, was among the many that took up that permission in 1920.

The JPR0088b suffix indicates a variant within the Bischofshofen series, distinguishing it by a detail of paper stock, color, or overprint from the base type.
