Klemens Brosch was a gifted Linz-area watercolorist and graphic artist who died in 1925 at just 36, leaving behind a small but admired body of work. That a municipal Notgeld commission came his way in 1920 is unsurprising — Austrian communities issuing emergency small-change notes during the postwar currency chaos often sought local artistic talent, and Brosch was well-regarded in Upper Austria by then. His involvement lifts this otherwise routine Heller note well above the thousands of anonymous municipality issues from the same period.
Atzbach is a small market community in the Vöcklabruck district. Johann Hummer's signature as municipal authority appears to be the only official validation on the piece.
