Arbing is a small parish municipality in Upper Austria, and its decision to issue emergency money in 1920 places this note squarely within the Austrian Notgeld phenomenon — a response to the catastrophic coin shortage that followed the collapse of the Habsburg economy. Hundreds of communes issued their own small-denomination notes during this period, most in limited print runs, and survival rates vary wildly depending on whether local collectors hoarded them at the time of issue.
Printed by E. Prietzei in Steyr, about twelve kilometers from Arbing. The Jaksc/Pick suffix "c" indicates this is a specific variant within the series.
