Reichersberg is a small market town on the Inn River in Upper Austria, directly on the border with Bavaria. This note is a Notgeld issue — emergency municipal scrip printed during the severe coin shortage that followed Austria's defeat in the First World War. By 1920, the new Austrian Republic was still unable to reliably supply small-denomination coinage, forcing hundreds of towns and villages to print their own low-value fractional notes. Reichersberg was among the smaller communities to do so; Jaksc catalogues relatively few issues from this particular municipality.
Karl Oettl's signature as issuing authority places responsibility with the local administration. The 10 Heller denomination is among the lowest in the Austrian Notgeld series.
