Slovakia's 10 Halierov was originally issued in aluminum, but KM#17a is the .925 silver collector restrike produced by the Slovak Mint to coincide with the country's monetary transition following the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia on January 1, 1993. The new Slovak koruna and its subdivisions entered circulation that same day, making 1993 issues the founding coinage of an independent Slovak monetary system that had not existed since the wartime Slovak State of 1939–1945.
