Reverse description A high-relief draped bust of King George III facing three-quarters to the right dominates the upper field, depicted wearing a fur-trimmed robe, with the legend GEORGE III arcing along the upper left and the dates 1738-1820 along the upper right. Superimposed in the lower portion of the field are two gilt renditions of the 1817 British gold Sovereign: one showing the obverse with the laureate bust of George III and the legend GEORGIUS III D.G. BRITANNIAR REX F.D., and the other showing the reverse with the celebrated Benedetto Pistrucci design of St. George slaying the dragon. An engraver's signature monogram appears in the lower right field.
