| Reverse description | The reverse presents a finely engraved portrait bust of Holy Roman Emperor Karl IV (Charles IV, 1316–1378) occupying the left and upper-central field, depicted crowned with a medieval royal crown and wearing a draped robe, rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. To the lower right, two gold-gilded medallions reproduce both sides of a historical Rhine Gold Guilder issued under Karl IV, showcasing their intricate medieval coin designs in selective gilding. The legend 'KARL IV' appears along the left arc and the regnal dates '1316–1378' along the upper right arc of the field. The engraver's mark of Willem Vis is present in the lower left field. |

| Additional information |
The Carolus guilder — the gold Rhine guilder struck under Charles V from the 1520s onward — became the dominant trade coin of the sixteenth-century Low Countries and the direct ancestor of the Dutch gulden as a monetary unit. This 2001 silver issue commemorates that lineage from the Netherlands Antilles, whose gulden remained pegged to the US dollar at 1.79 ANG throughout the coin's issue year, a rate fixed since 1971.
KM#56 is a bullion-weight commemorative at one troy ounce, part of a broader Netherlands Antilles program issuing themed 10-gulden pieces through the late 1990s and early 2000s under Beatrix's effigy.
