Paraguay's wartime finances were stretched enough by 1943 that the government chose to overprint existing 10 Guaraníes stock rather than commission fresh currency. The overprint on P#155 was a stopgap — the kind of administrative decision that produces short-run varieties and, consequently, genuine scarcity. American Bank Note Company handled the work in New York, continuing the long relationship between ABNC and Paraguayan monetary authorities that dated back decades.
Collectors should note that overprint alignment varies meaningfully across surviving examples — a known characteristic of this issue, not a sign of forgery.
