Comments

Haiti's Trésorerie Générale issued this note just two decades after independence, at a time when the new republic was still financially strangled by the 1825 indemnity agreement — the 150 million francs demanded by France in exchange for diplomatic recognition. Domestic paper currency was an administrative necessity under these conditions, not a sign of monetary confidence.

P#6A is among the earliest documented Haitian paper issues and survives in very small numbers. Whether that reflects limited original production or near-total destruction in circulation is not established in the literature.
