| Obverse description | A stylised winged lion of St. Mark occupies the central field, presented in a frontal heraldic pose and grasping a shield charged with crossed arrows, symbolising the seven united Ionian islands. The figure is rendered in a bold, somewhat archaic relief characteristic of early nineteenth-century Greek provincial coinage. The circular legend ΕΠΤΑΝΗΣΟΣ ΠΟΛΙΤΕΙΑ (Septinsular State) runs along the periphery in Greek majuscule lettering, separated by a small dot stop. |

| Additional information |
The Septinsular Republic — the Ionian Islands under nominal Ottoman suzerainty and Russian protection — was the first nominally self-governing Greek state since the Ottoman conquest, established in 1800 after Napoleon ceded the islands via the Treaty of Campo Formio in 1797 and Russia moved in. This copper issue belongs to that peculiar interlude before French forces returned under the Treaties of Tilsit in 1807 and absorbed the islands into the Napoleonic system entirely.
The gazetta was a Venetian monetary unit inherited directly from centuries of Serenissima administration, retained here out of practical familiarity rather than political sentiment.
