| Obverse description | Laureate head of Marianne, the allegorical personification of the French Republic, facing right, wearing a wreath of olive branches with berries. The effigy is rendered in a refined Art Deco style characteristic of engraver Pierre Turin. The legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE curves along the left and right periphery respectively, separated by the portrait. The engraver's signature P.TURIN appears in small characters at the base of the neck, just above the lower border. The inner field is framed by a continuous dashed or beaded inner border. |
