Part of Swissmint's ongoing alpine landscape series, this piece commemorates the Rosenlaui glacier in the Bernese Oberland — a body of ice that has retreated so dramatically since the 19th century that photographs from the 1870s show the glacier face where tourists now walk on bare rock. The Swiss mint has used these collector issues partly to document what is being lost, making the choice of subject quietly pointed.
