Obverse description Left-facing laureate bust of Marianne, wearing a wreath of wheat and oak leaves, rendered in high relief in the neoclassical style of Pierre-Alexandre Morlon. The truncation bears the engraver's signature MORLON. The circular legend REPVBLIQVE FRANÇAISE runs along the periphery, divided on either side of the effigy. The portrait conveys a refined, idealized classicism characteristic of French Third Republic coinage.
