Obverse description Three giant elands (Taurotragus derbianus) depicted in profile facing left, their elongated spiral horns rising prominently into the upper field, rendered in fine relief by engraver G.B.L. Bazor whose signature appears to the right. The circumferential legend AFRIQUE EQUATORIALE FRANÇAISE curves along the upper rim, with INSTITUT D'EMISSION arching below it across the upper field. The date 1958 appears in the lower field, flanked on either side by CAMEROUN, all set against a plain background.
