| Reverse description | The reverse features a color-printed map of the People's Republic of China rendered in golden-yellow hues, occupying the majority of the coin's field. Provincial boundaries and major river systems are delineated within the outline of the country, and a small red gemstone or enamel dot marks the approximate location of Beijing. The legend MAP OF THE P.R. OF CHINA arcs along the upper periphery in Latin script, while the date 2003 appears in the lower field beneath the map. |

| Additional information |
The Democratic Republic of the Congo has issued a long and eclectic run of commemorative silver pieces under foreign licensing arrangements, most bearing no relation to Congolese history or economy. This piece, featuring a map of the People's Republic of China, belongs squarely to that category — struck almost certainly under a commercial licensing deal brokered through a European or Asian coin marketing firm, a common arrangement for cash-strapped central banks in the early 2000s willing to lend their issuing authority to foreign themes.
KM# 85 is not widely reported in circulation; virtually all known examples exist in original packaging aimed at the Chinese collector market.
