The Democratic Republic of Congo has issued commemorative silver under the Banque Centrale du Congo since the country's post-Mobutu reconstitution, using wildlife subjects to generate foreign collector revenue rather than domestic circulation. These pieces were struck almost entirely for the numismatic export market — few ever entered Congo itself.
KM#151 is part of a broader wildlife series from this period, produced by contract mints in Europe on behalf of the issuing authority.
