Obverse description The national coat of arms of Niger occupies the central field, depicting a shield charged with crossed swords and a sun above a bull's head, flanked by two crossed spears and draped national flags on each side. A ribbon scroll below the shield bears the legend REPUBLIQUE DU NIGER. The word INDEPENDANCE arcs prominently along the upper legend, while the denomination 10 FRS and the independence date 3 AOUT 1960 appear in large characters in the lower field. The word ESSAI is inscribed to the lower left, identifying this piece as a trial strike.
