Henry the Navigator never actually sailed on the voyages he sponsored — he directed Portugal's maritime expansion from land, most notably from Sagres, where he is said to have gathered cartographers, astronomers, and pilots to systematize oceanic exploration. The Congo connection is purely commercial: in the late 1990s, the DRC mint program churned out dozens of silver issues honoring foreign historical figures with no geographic or political relationship to the issuing state, targeting the collector market almost exclusively.
