The "Ferrari" in this coin's name refers to the numismatist Luigi Ferrari — not the automobile manufacturer — whose extraordinary collection was seized by the German government during World War I and auctioned off in a series of landmark sales between 1921 and 1924 that reshaped the rare coin market.
