Obverse description A full-bodied lion passant is depicted in high relief at the centre of the field, standing on a grassy ground line and facing left with its maned head turned toward the viewer. The legend 'REPUBLIQUE DEMOCRATIQUE DU CONGO' curves along the upper rim, while the denomination '10 FRANCS' and the date '2005' are inscribed in two lines across the lower field. The design is executed in a naturalistic style with finely detailed musculature and mane.

Reverse description The reverse depicts Caspar, one of the Biblical Three Wise Men, standing in the centre of the field in robes and a crowned turban, holding aloft a gilded chalice in his right hand and grasping a sack with his left. A reclining camel with ornate saddlebags is shown to the right, and a bare tree or wooden structure appears to the left. A large eight-pointed star radiates from the upper field against a starry nocturnal sky rendered in fine engraving. The name 'CASPAR' is inscribed in Gothic lettering along the lower rim.
