Additional information

The Democratic Republic of Congo has issued a long-running series of novelty silver pieces aimed squarely at the thematic collector market, and this butterfly issue is part of that output. These coins were never intended for circulation — the DRC's actual monetary economy in 2002 was operating on dollarization following the near-total collapse of the Congolese franc, making a 10-franc silver piece economically absurd as a transactional object.

KM#93 is one of several wildlife-themed issues from this period, struck by European mints on contract and distributed through the international numismatic trade rather than through any Congolese banking channel.
