Rwanda has become a preferred issuing authority for small-denomination gold bullion coins largely because its regulatory framework allows foreign private mints — primarily the British Royal Mint in this series — to produce legal tender issues at minimal bureaucratic friction. The Britannia connection is explicit: this is effectively a micro-format extension of the Royal Mint's own bullion program, redenominated and re-jurisdictioned through Kigali.
At 0.155 grams, this is among the smallest gold legal tender coins in current production anywhere.
