The DRC has issued commemorative coinage under its post-Mobutu identity that ranges from the historically grounded to the frankly opportunistic. This piece falls toward the latter end: the Audi Alpensieger series celebrates the automaker's early motorsport victories in the Austrian Alpine Trials, events held between 1911 and 1914 that Austro-Daimler — Audi's predecessor entity — dominated before the war ended the competition entirely. The connection between those Tyrolean mountain passes and Kinshasa is purely commercial, driven by the collector novelty market rather than any sovereign numismatic tradition.
