Obverse description Central device depicts a mustachioed peasant farmer wearing a flat cap, shown from the waist up, slicing a large round loaf of bread held against his chest, with a bowl visible in the lower field before him. To the upper right of the figure appears the circular FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) emblem incorporating a stylized wheat sheaf. The circumferential legend MAGYAR NÉPKÖZTÁRSASÁG (Hungarian People's Republic) runs along the rim in Latin script, with the Budapest mint mark BP. flanked by two stars positioned at the base of the design.

Reverse description The large numeral 10 dominates the upper field, with the denomination FORINT inscribed in a straight line immediately below it. The Hungarian People's Republic coat of arms — comprising a red, white and green striped shield surmounted by a red star, flanked by symmetrical wheat ears bound with a ribbon — is centrally placed in the lower field, with the split date 19 83 appearing to either side of the arms along the lower rim.
