| Obverse description | Laureate and armored bust of Emperor Ferdinand III facing right, depicted with long flowing hair adorned with a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon at the rear. The effigy shows the emperor in elaborate plate armor decorated with foliate ornament at the gorget, with a mantle visible at the shoulder. The bust is bold and high-relief, characteristic of Habsburg imperial portraiture of the mid-seventeenth century. A beaded inner border frames the central device, while the circumferential Latin legend is distributed around the periphery between the inner beaded and outer milled borders. |

On the eagle's breast is superimposed a quartered shield bearing the arms of Hungary (horizontal barry with a patriarchal cross) and other Habsburg hereditary territories. The mint mark 'N B' (Nagybánya/Baia Mare) appears below the shield between the eagle's talons. The date 1639 is inscribed in the upper field to the left of the crown. A beaded inner border frames the design, with the Latin titulary legend distributed around the periphery between beaded and milled borders. |
