Aruba's gold florin series commemorates the 1986 Status Aparte, the constitutional arrangement that separated the island from the Netherlands Antilles and established it as an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Charter referenced in this issue's title is the Statute of the Kingdom, the 1954 constitutional document that governs relations between the Netherlands and its Caribbean constituents — a framework that Aruba's separation required renegotiating in specific terms.
Mintage on these Aruban gold issues was extremely limited, produced primarily for collectors rather than circulation.
