The Bahrain Monetary Agency, established in 1973 following independence from Britain, issued this series across a period that included the significant political transition of 1999 — the death of Emir Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa and the accession of his son Hamad, which accounts for the dual attribution in the name. Coins struck in the later years of the run carry the same dies, meaning the change of ruler left no immediate mark on the coinage itself.
