| Obverse description | Central field dominated by four large Chinese characters reading 光緒元寶 (Guangxu Yuanbao, meaning 'Guangxu Original Currency') arranged in a bold, decorative style within an inner beaded circle. Manchu script characters appear flanking the central legend on either side within the inner circle. The upper portion of the outer legend reads 湖北省造 (Made in Hupeh Province) in Chinese, while the lower outer legend indicates the weight standard 庫平七分二釐 (7.2 Candareens, Kuping standard). Small decorative rosette stops punctuate the outer legend at the sides, and the entire design is contained within a toothed outer border. |
