Obverse description Right-facing effigy of King Willem-Alexander rendered as a stylized silhouette in the center of the field, surrounded by an elaborate guilloche-style pattern of interlocking spirograph curves that radiate outward from the portrait. The circular legend WILLEM-ALEXANDER KONING DER NEDERLANDEN runs along the periphery, with the date 2014 inscribed in the lower exergue. The overall design reflects a modern, graphic artistic approach characteristic of contemporary Dutch commemorative coinage.

Additional information

De Nederlandsche Bank was founded in 1814 by royal decree of King Willem I, partly to stabilize a financial system shattered by two decades of Napoleonic occupation and the enforced dissolution of the old Dutch East India Company's banking infrastructure. The bank's early mandate included managing the national debt and restoring confidence in Dutch currency after years of French-imposed monetary disruption.

This commemorative falls in the first full year of Willem-Alexander's reign, following his mother Beatrix's abdication in April 2013.
