San Marino's UNESCO series has been running for decades, with each annual release tied to a specific World Heritage Site. The 2023 issue — KM#627 — continues that obligation under the country's long-standing cultural cooperation agreements rather than any particular commemorative urgency.
San Marino itself achieved UNESCO World Heritage status in 2008, when the historic centre and Mount Titano were inscribed. Whether that self-referential irony was intentional in the program's design is unrecorded.
