Issued to mark the 150th anniversary of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, founded in 1863 following Henri Dunant's firsthand witness of the Battle of Solferino. Germany's commemorative ten-euro copper-nickel strikes from this period were produced alongside silver versions of the same design — the base-metal pieces intended for general circulation, the silver for collectors, a two-tier system the Bundesbank had used since the 1990s.
