| Obverse description | A stylised cartographic representation of the Italian peninsula occupies the central field, encircled by eleven stars. Above the peninsula, an allegorical female figure reclines in a flowing robe; she wears a mural crown and has wings at her temples, emblematic of Italy personified. A long, sinuous ribbon emanates from her figure and spirals outward, ultimately encircling a single star held aloft in her hands — symbolising Italy as the twelfth and completing member-state star of the European Union. An inner legend names all twelve EU member countries, and an outer concentric legend reinforces the national identifications, both rendered in Latin script around the full circumference of the coin. |
