Phryge — the mascot name derived from the Phrygian cap — was officially unveiled for the Paris 2024 Games in November 2022, and the Monnaie de Paris moved quickly to build out a full Olympic sports series around it. The volleyball issue is one of dozens in this run, struck in billon at .333 fineness, a composition the Paris mint has leaned on heavily for affordable collector issues since the early 2000s.
