Obverse description The obverse features a high-relief sculpted composition divided by a vertical bar into two distinct zones. On the left, the monogram 'RF' (République Française) appears above the vertical legend 'MÈRE TERESA' in bold lettering. On the right, a detailed relief portrays Mother Teresa, shown in three-quarter view wearing her characteristic white habit with blue border, tenderly cradling and facing a young child whose forehead nearly touches hers, evoking an intimate scene of compassion. Surrounding the right field, the inscribed legend reads 'CHEZ NOUS, IL Y A TOUJOURS UN LIT PRÊT POUR UN ENFANT DE PLUS', arching along the upper and lower rim. The design employs a frosted relief against a mirror-polished field, characteristic of French proof coinage.

Additional information

France has no particular historical connection to Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu — born in Skopje to Albanian parents, working in Calcutta, beatified by Rome. The 2010 issue belongs to a Monnaie de Paris humanitarian figures series that drew on international rather than strictly French subjects, a deliberate policy shift from the institution's earlier commemorative focus on national history and Gallic patrimony.

Teresa received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, declining the ceremonial banquet and redirecting its $192,000 cost to the poor of Calcutta.
