| Obverse description | The obverse features a central double portrait of Marie Curie and her husband Pierre Curie in facing profile, set against a field rendered with a geometric representation of the molecular crystal structure of polonium, the element Marie Curie discovered. Flanking the central effigies are symbolic evocations of the two Nobel Prizes awarded to Marie Curie: the Nobel Prize in Physics (1903, shared with Pierre Curie and Henri Becquerel) and the Nobel Prize in Chemistry (1911).
