Part of the Monnaie de Paris "Masterpieces of French Museums" series, this coin commemorates Renoir's 1876 painting held at the Musée d'Orsay. The work was acquired by Gustave Caillebotte — himself a painter and major Impressionist collector — and bequeathed to the French state in 1894, though the government initially accepted only a fraction of his full collection amid academic resistance to Impressionism.
The series uses a selective colorization technique applied after striking, a process the Monnaie de Paris has refined across several collector programs since the 2000s.
