Additional information

Portugal hosted the ISAF Sailing World Championships in Cascais in 2007, a rare occasion when the country held the sport's highest-level multi-class event. Cascais had been a fixture in international sailing for decades, but securing the full World Championship required sustained lobbying by the Portuguese Sailing Federation through the early 2000s.

The .500 fineness is characteristic of Portuguese commemorative silver from this period — a deliberate cost-reduction choice that kept face value credible without committing to sterling or fine silver.
