Obverse description Central design depicts two hands clasped in a firm handshake, rendered in a bold, graphic artistic style against a lightly textured field. The handshake motif symbolises unity and cooperation, commemorating Finnish independence. The arc legend 'SUOMI 10€' curves along the upper portion of the coin, while 'FINLAND' arcs along the lower rim. The engraver's initial 'T' appears in the right field near the rim.

Reverse description The reverse features a striking abstract design composed of concentric topographic or fingerprint-like contour lines radiating outward from a central focal point, evoking both a landscape and a unique identity. A small mint mark or decorative element is situated near the top of the design, and a second subtle detail appears just below the centre. The date '2017' is inscribed in the right field, integrated naturally within the undulating line pattern. The overall composition fills the entire coin face to the rim, leaving no plain field, and is executed with fine detail.

Additional information

Issued to mark the centenary of Finnish independence, declared on December 6, 1917, amid the collapse of the Russian Empire and the opening weeks of a brutal civil war that would kill over 36,000 Finns within months of that declaration. The timing meant independence and catastrophe arrived almost simultaneously.

The .500 fineness is notably low for a commemorative silver issue, a choice the Mint of Finland adopted across several centenary pieces to keep retail pricing accessible for a mass-market anniversary program.
