Additional information

This coin belongs to a series issued to mark the 200th anniversary of the first volume of the Grimm brothers' Kinder- und Hausmärchen, published in 1812. Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm did not write the tales themselves — they collected and edited stories from informants, many of them middle-class acquaintances rather than the rural peasants the brothers' own framing implied. The 2012 anniversary prompted considerable reassessment of that mythology.

The copper-nickel version was the circulation-quality issue; a silver proof struck in .925 fine was produced concurrently for collectors.
