Additional information

This issue commemorates the 125th anniversary of the first German subway line — the Berlin Stadtbahn, opened in 1877 as an elevated steam railway before electrification transformed urban transit across the Reich. The 2002 date places it among the earliest German commemorative €10 silver pieces, a new denomination introduced that year alongside euro currency adoption, when the Bundesrepublik began replacing its long-running DM commemorative program with euro-denominated issues.

The .925 silver specification was held consistently across this early euro commemorative run, though later issues in the series occasionally varied.
