Antoni Gaudí died in 1926 after being struck by a tram on the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes in Barcelona — he was so poorly dressed that passersby assumed he was a beggar, and he lay unattended for hours before reaching the hospital. The centenary of that death is the occasion for this issue. Construction on the Sagrada Família, which Gaudí knew would outlast him, remains ongoing and is currently projected for completion in the late 2020s, funded entirely by private donations and visitor entry fees — no public money.
