| Reverse description | A full-length sculptural representation of the Cynic philosopher Diogenes of Sinope stands at centre, depicted nearly nude in the manner of an ancient Greek statue, holding a staff in his right hand. A small dog sits at his feet to the right, referencing his Cynic philosophy and epithet. To the left, a large pithos (storage jar) is rendered in profile, recalling the tradition that Diogenes dwelt in such a vessel. The Greek legend ΔΙΟΓΕΝΗΣ 412-323 Π.Χ. arcs along the upper left field, with the date 2017 inscribed below it. The design is framed by the same ornate decorative border of natural and floral motifs as the obverse. |
